Day 26

First day of work in our new facility!

I woke up to my alarm at 7am. I pulled myself out of bed at 7:15am. I had a difficult time sleeping last night so it was a little difficult to wake up. However, every morning I wake up I look immediately at my phone for a text from my dad. He texts me every morning with a good morning and a prayer for my day. I always get myself up just to read the text. My father is such a great man of God and I am truly blessed that I can call him my dad! It is so nice to know that my dad prays for me everyday! It's also nice to hear from him everyday as well! These texts mean the world to me! I hope he never stops even when I'm old and have a family of my own. :) I appreciate my dad so much and have come to appreciate him so much more since I've gone off to college and even been here in Nicaragua.

So I got up and got ready for my first day with official work hours! It was an 8am to 5pm schedule! What a first day it was! It was only Brad and I this morning because Jessie wasn't feeling well until the afternoon. It was neat because since it was just Brad, Rocío, and myself we spoke only in spanish the entire morning! I greatly enjoyed that!

We had six out of the eight scholars who signed up to meet with Rocío today come! We were very happy about that! Almost all of them, but the two that didn't show up weren't feeling well and one is pregnant so we weren't too upset. But it definitely is exciting to see the kids committing to come and showing up. We did have a lot of waiting in the morning for the first group, we didn't have two of the four because they weren't feeling well and the other two came at 10am. So a two hour waiting period. I was able to read my book and Brad and Rocío were able to go over their contract and also talk about the importance of the safety of the kids with current employees and even future employees.

When we had the two girls come at 10am, it was Kimberly and Ninoska, I was able to talk to them about the purpose of their journals and let them know about our session on friday. While Kimberly was meeting with Rocío, I brought out some make-up that was donated to VISEDAL for the girls and let Nino have at it. She insisted on doing my face, so I let her. It was fun to see her excited and having fun and then she did her face after. After they left, I had to wash the make-up off my face. My eyes were so dark from the eyeliner etc. I don't like make-up anyways, however I enjoyed it because I could see that she was having a great time, so I had no problem playing the model for a little bit.

We then had our lunch break at noon and went to our usual lunch spot and Jessie was able to join us because she was feeling better. We had a good lunch and I was able to talk to Rocío and get to know her a little more and we had some good laughs and it felt like we were coworkers! It was fun for me! I haven't had a work schedule like this before, I have worked for missions work, babysitting, and have worked in offices before but never a nine hour work day, so it was pretty neat to have! I told Brad that I was excited about having work hours, because I am here to work so put me to work! :)

After lunch we had the Tipitapa group come except for Aura because she studies in the afternoon and she was supposed to come in the morning but she is pregnant and wasn't feeling well. So we had Belén, Jostyn, and Génesis Elizabeth from Tipitapa and then Sonia came as well. They each had their time with Rocío but while they were waiting I was able to talk with Sonia and Belén about their journals as well. I was also able to just have fun with them! I also enjoyed coloring with Jostyn and Génesis Elizabeth. It was really fun and just great to see them! Every time I see the kids I am reminded why I am here, that is to love them and show them God's love in their lives. It's just really great to be with them now every day!

I had a great time with Belén today too. She is a sweetheart and we have little inside jokes now and are friends on Facebook etc. I pray that these relationships that is forming with a lot of the scholars doesn't stop when I leave! I will definitely do what I can to keep in touch and continue to grow our relationship. I want them to know that I will always be there for them no matter where I am or how old we get!

It was a great day! It was also very tiring! I can understand now why my mom comes home from work so tired, and I probably don't even do as much as she does throughout the day and she is taking classes too and takes care of us kids and my dad and is first lady at our church! Holy cow! My mom is seriously amazing! Every day and with every experience like this I have come to respect my mom so much more and try to do everything I can to show her she is appreciated and to help lighten the load, I don't always to a good job but when I get home I am definitely going to try harder that's for sure! My mom means so much to me and I intend to show her that each and every day! But it's just amazing to think that my parents do so much and then still come home to take care of me and my siblings and the church and church people etc! I love them so much! Appreciate your parents for what they do for you!

So a great day that was ended by Jessie making Brad and I dinner! It was really nice and then of course Oreos for dessert! :) Now I am laying in bed ready and excited to go to sleep and excited for another day with more of the scholars! :)

Before I go I thought I would show ya'll the mural that the kids made for the office and we were able to hang it up today!

Well until next time, buenas noches
